How our energy work fits together.

Renewable energy needs two things to grow: money to build the plants, and a way to prove that the power they produce is clean. We work on both.

In Mozambique we develop and arrange finance for hydropower and solar, starting with a hydro and solar project that is now in development. Projects like this can also produce carbon credits through community programmes.

For companies that want to show their electricity comes from renewable sources, we buy and retire energy attribute certificates (I-RECs, Guarantees of Origin and RECs). One certificate stands for one megawatt-hour of renewable power. We also structure finance for biofuel projects, from feedstock to distribution.

What is an energy attribute certificate?

It is proof that one megawatt-hour of electricity was produced from a renewable source. When a company redeems a certificate against its own use, it can report that electricity as renewable.

Which certificate do I need?

It depends on where your electricity is used. I-RECs are used across Africa, Asia and Latin America, Guarantees of Origin in Europe, and RECs in the United States and Canada.

Where are your energy projects?

Our current development is in Mozambique, where we focus on hydropower, solar and carbon.

Do you finance biofuel projects?

Yes. We structure project finance and offtake for biofuels, including ethanol, biodiesel, biogas and sustainable aviation fuel.
